Exploring The Hague
The best hub for tips and suggestions for exploring the city during EPSC is to visit the city’s website DenHaag.com, with the most up-to-date calendar of activities, tips and other recommendations during your stay.
Tips for Lunch
We have partnered with Social Capital to offer EPSC delegates attractive discounted lunch offers. Social Capital helps people with a work disability or distance to the labour market to find their dream job. They offer catering during events at Amare and run various restaurants in The Hague, like the Stadskantine inside Amare, Happy Tosti, De Prael brewery and the museum café at Museon-Omniversum. Their social entrepreneurial spirit aligns well with the diversity and inclusivity mission of EPSC. Closer to the conference, we will provide you more details on the lunch deals.
Suggestions for dinner
The international culinary scene of The Hague will have something to offer for everyone. If we must pick a few, the following suggestions would be on our list. For nearby dining, you can consider places like Palmette, Tapisco, Mílu, Bleyenberg, Rootz or restaurants at the Buitenhof, Grote Markt and Plein. Across The Hague you also will find many excellent choices for a bite or drinks on picturesque squares that are worth a detour, like the bars and restaurants at the Anna Palownaplein, Van Kinsbergen at the Prins Hendrikplein or at one of the city's oldest bars Sint Joris en de Draeck situated at the Koningsplein. Absorb the view across the Hague from the rooftop restaurant Flora or enjoy a drink at the rooftop bar at Bleyenberg. Many restaurants offer menu options that meet your dietary preferences but be sure to check out the vegan burger place Beesechurgers. From Amare grab a bike or hop on a tram (HTM tram line 17) to head over to Scheveningen Harbour where you can find restaurants like SuzieQ, fish restaurants like Catch by Simonis, or the excellent Peruvian cevicheria Callao. For Dutch pancakes, Oma Toos would be your go-to place.
Explore The Hague by Planet Trail
Care for a walk? What better way to explore The Hague than following a route across a Solar System to scale? Local organisers are currently planning a city walk that starts with the Sun at the steps of EPSC in Amare, taking you on a scenic route across the city (on foot or by bike) to reach Pluto on the steps to the beach at Scheveningen. On the way you can pass top sights like the palace gardens, Peace Palace and might even be able to spot the Girl with the Pearl Earring. Infused with historical and scientific facts, this planet trail will bring EPSC to the city of peace and justice and highlight The Hague's planetary allure. Stay tuned for more!
The Hague, the Beach
A trip to the seaside makes your stay in The Hague complete and getting some sand between your toes is a must. You can stroll along the beach, the boulevard, or have dinner at one of the beach pavilions or in Scheveningen harbour.
Surf's up! The Hague is also a great spot for surfing and at the Scheveningen beachfront near the harbour, you will find the best surf and several surf schools where you can rent boards and wetsuits or take an introductory course. Check out the options offered by Aloha, Hart Beach and The Shore. Of course, there are many other ways to explore the beach and waters in and around The Hague, so check out more tips here.
